Immunotherapy (also called Allergy Shots) are used to make your body less sensitive to allergens. Each injection contains tiny amounts of the substances you're allergic to, such as pollen or house dust.  Many people find that this form of treatment relieves or greatly improves their allergy symptoms.

The Process

Allergy shots are given weekly at first, but the time interval is gradually decreased until they're given only once a month. The amount of allergen used in the injection is also increased over time until the maintenance level is achieved. Depending on your allergies, you may get one or several shots. It is normal for the injection site on the arm to feel a little sore for a few hours, but you should otherwise feel fine. The shots often continue for three to five years.

After your first injection you will be asked to sit in the waiting room for about 15minutes to ensure a reaction (anaphylasix) does not occur. Signs of reaction include: itching, break out in hives, repeated sneezing, and tightness is throat/chest. If these symptom occur, you will be treated immediately by our nursing staff.

Make a Commitment

Allergy shots do not work unless they are given regularly. You must commit to allergy therapy. Please make arrangments with our office if you know you'll have to miss any shots.
